Starting it

Click the microphone to start talking. Click it again — or stop speaking — to finish. This button sits beside New task at the top of the sidebar, and there is another inside the task box itself.

The first time, your browser asks permission to use the microphone. Say yes, or dictation can’t start.

What you said is filled into the form for you to check. Nothing is saved until you press Add task.

Commas help but aren’t required — say it however it comes out, and check the form before you add it.

“for Deanna” only works for someone already in your people list — otherwise it stays in the title, so “pay for gas” doesn’t get handed to a person called Gas. “assign Deanna” will take a name it doesn’t know and flag it.

These only count at the end of a phrase — the end of the sentence, or just before a comma.

Worth knowing

Say the task first, the details after

Everything before the first keyword becomes the title. “Pick up firewood assign Deanna” gives you a task called “pick up firewood”, not “pick up firewood assign Deanna”.

A flag mid-sentence stays in the title

“Renew the private health insurance” keeps its full title and does not mark the task private, because “private” isn’t ending the phrase. Say “renew the private health insurance, private” if you mean both.

“Next Friday” means Friday of next week

Say “this Friday” — or just “Friday” — for the one coming up. On a Tuesday, “next Tuesday” is eight days away, not today.

Nothing is guessed

A field you didn’t mention is left alone. If a date can’t be worked out, the words stay in the title rather than vanishing, so you can see what it did with them.

Dictation uses your browser’s own speech recognition. Nothing is sent anywhere by this app until you press Add task.
